My name is Glenys Oyston and I’m a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor.
My mission is to help you feel good about eating.
I practice a philosophy called Health at Every Size® (HAES®) which focuses on developing sustainable health practices without a focus on weight. On a very basic level, HAES® means that no matter what your weight, you can begin working toward developing nourishing, nurturing health habits right now.
Eating is meant to be enjoyable. Diet culture, unfortunately, has taken the joy out of eating for so many people, and it hasn’t made them healthier or even thinner in the long run.
I have personal experience with this. I was steeped in diet culture for years.
I lived to maintain weight loss at great cost to my emotional and physical well-being. My life was all about keeping my weight off and keeping those compliments coming. It’s even why I became a dietitian! I loved tasty food but over time, I began to feel guilty about everything I ate.
After a while, I felt I needed to lose even more weight, because it’s never enough. So I restricted even more because I thought restriction was normal.
At times I binged or overate and I felt there must be something wrong with me. I thought about food all day long.
Then one day I discovered Health at Every Size® which transformed the way I thought about weight, diet and body image.
I gave up dieting and my fear of weight gain because I wanted to live a truly full life. I eventually started to eat without guilt or shame and I decided I was already good enough as I was. None of this was easy, but it has been worth it.
Now I help others to get free of diet culture and restriction mentality, and learn to eat normally.
